TRIS rates TTA at 'BBB'+ with 'stable' outlook, financial strength recognised

BANGKOK,11 January 2016: Thoresen Thai Agencies (or TTA) is pleased to announce that TRIS Rating Agency has affirmed its company rating assignment at BBB+ and its senior unsecured debenture at BBB, with a "stable" outlook. The ratings reflect TTA's competitiveness, business variety and strong financial position, despite the shipping and offshore industry downturn, a continuing slowdown in the Thai economy and uncertainties in the global economy.

Supramax dry bulk player took delivery of its 24th ship this week, with the $22.1m acquisition the latest in a long line of purchases as it prepares for a potential market upturn

Thoresen Shipping, the dry-bulk arm of Bangkok-based shipowner Thoresen Thai Agencies, has been on something of a buying binge lately.

Less than a decade ago, the company was best known for its fleet of elderly tweendeckers that operated semi-liner services with a strong Asian focus.

Since then, it has sold off the tweendeckers and reinvented itself as a global dry bulk player specialising in supramaxes. ...More

TTA buys Supramax vessel

Thoresen Shipping Singapore Pte Ltd, wholly owned by the SET-listed Thoresen Thai Agencies (TTA), has acquired an eight-year-old Supramax dry bulk vessel for US$20 million.

The acquisition of M.V.Thor Mercury expands Thoresen Shipping's fleet to 19 vessels including 11 Supramax vessels, with an average size of 49,269 dead weight tonnes (DWT) and average age of 10.9 years.

Previously dubbed the M.V. Medi Chennai, the 55,862-DWT vessel was built in October 2005 by Kawasaki Ship building Corporation in Japan. It is the eighth vessel of its kind in Thoresen Shipping's fleet, said TTA. ...More

Delivery of M.V. Thor Breeze

Thoresen Thai Agencies Public Company Limited ("TTA") confirms that Thoresen Shipping Singapore Pte. Ltd., which is a wholly owned subsidiary of TTA, officially took delivery of M.V. Thor Breeze (the "Vessel") from Vietnam Shipbuilding Industry Group, Vietnam ("Vinashin") on 20 August 2013. This most recent addition to the Thoresen fleet reaffirms the Company's long-term strategy to own and operate a modern and competitive dry bulk shipping fleet with low operating costs.

The Vessel has a 53,506 deadweight ton ("DWT") capacity double skin Supramax Bulk Carrier and was ordered in September 2007. It is fully equipped with four cargo cranes, each of which has a safe working load of 36 metric tons (M.V. Thor Breeze is the second newbuild vessel ordered from Vinashin).

After the delivery of M.V. Thor Breeze, the Thoresen owned fleet will consist of 18 vessels with an average size of 48,902 DWT and an average age of 10.63 years. ...More
